CONCEPT & INSTALLATION

Horwitz & Associates, Inc., developed this unified package of integrated programs to provide on-line verification of input and considerably reduce operator interaction. This effective management and control system utilizes our unique programming technique so the information generated in one program be used later in another program, eliminating previous clerical functions. Output from one report can automatically become input to another.

Our Formula Based Manufacturing System is multi-user and menu driven. We provide supporting documentation and complete source coding for all of our applications, which allows for editing on your part. The Manufacturing System can be integrated with our Distribution System.

FORMULA BASED MANUFACTURING MODULES

The Jere V. Horwitz & Associates, Inc., Formula Based Manufacturing System is a completely integrated manufacturing and distribution system. The application includes modules for order processing, production management including lot control, bill of material and routing control, scheduling assistance, batch sizing and control, shipping and billing, and sales analysis.

The system is meant to operate in a real-time, multi-location environment, with the ability to support radio frequency devices and bar code equipment. An effective mix of on-line and batch processing leads to an extremely time effective production management system.

Some of the features of the various modules include:

ORDER ENTRY:

Real time credit check, goods allocation, and allocation of raw materials for production. Real time messaging informs order processing, production control, and purchasing of changing requirements as the day proceeds.

Pricing is customer and item specific with quantity discounts available. Freight factors are kept separately so comparisons can be made between delivered sales and freight-added sales.

Order entry can automatically create production jobs if desired or only advise production control of the requirements.

The order processing and billing is integrated to a complete sales analysis system as well as Accounts Receivable.

REQUIREMENT FORECASTING:

The system provides three different forecasts for sales and production. The first is based on historical sales, the second on marketing forecast, and the third on in-house orders. All three do a complete material explosion to assist purchase planning.

PRODUCTION CONTROL:

Based on the preferred routing, the system automatically calculates the most effective batch sizes. Mixing jobs include pre-mix handling. A variety of packaging jobs may be created from one mixing job. If lot control is utilized, the system will direct picking to utilize the oldest raw materials first. Complete documents are created, and finished goods lots are reserved. Both routings and material substitution can easily be made during the life of the production run.

Because labor may be split across several different jobs simultaneously, the routings use a work center concept for tracking actual vs. standard. A work center is a combination of assets including equipment and labor, with expected times for a process and associated standard cost.

A variety of conversion factors allow tracking materials in multiple units. Production statistics are generated daily, weekly, monthly, and annually. Routings allow for costs per job, batch, hour, and quantity. Waste factors are supported for standards.

Actual vs. standard variances are tracked.

Based on work center reporting, the current status of a given job is available on-line. Yields are recorded at packaging. Lot numbers can be generated as necessary anytime during the production process.

Batches and lots may be held for a variety of QC reasons. One formula modifications are easily accommodated.

FORMULA MODELING & COSTING:

This separate module allows modeling of production formulas by percentage and by weight. Cost comparisons and price quotations can be modeled at different batch sizes, routings, and packaging structures.

MATERIALS MANAGEMENT:

The system supports full bar code interface with both hard-wired and Radio Frequency devices. Materials may be staged in both full and broken quantities. Auto staging for non-inventoried materials (such as water) is possible. With real time allocation, staged materials can be protected from lower priority production runs. Any material can be excluded awaiting quality control approval.

If the lot feature is used, complete forward and backward material tracking exists spanning the entire source to customer chain.
